Abstract

Since May 2011, West Bengal has seen a major political change.. The ruling Left Front was routed in the elections and a new political combine of the Congress-Trinamul captured political power. Since May 2011, elections have been held in panchayats, municipalities, students unions, etc. The objective of the present paper is to examine  (1)  whether students union elections have been truly democratic;  ( 2) whether the present generation of students is in favour of radical social change. These research queries are being answered on the basis of content analysis of news reports and empirical studies done as part of an ongoing UGC’s Major Research Project entitled Student Radicalism in Post-Left Bengal.
